2017 Indie of the Year Awards — Myrne: The Quest

Myrne: The Quest is a first-person action-RPG. It's the follow-up of Song of the Myrne: What Lies Beneath (no need to have played it to fully enjoy this one though).

The Quest is a single player game, following a story, where everything is hand-crafted (no procedural generation, just love^^).

Get back to the world of the Myrne with its silly humor and discover why the night never goes away in this new region... Or don't, you're just here for that magic artifact after all, no way this malediction will have anything to do with your personal quest... Erm...

2017 Indie of the Year Awards — Pixel Sand

Pixel Sand is a fantasy physics platformer of epic indie proportions. Drawing inspiration from Dan-Ball's Powder Game and other games like Falling Sand, World of Sand, & Powder Toy, we've added to the genre with a familiar player named Vuhrne and a ground breaking story.
Solve engaging puzzles and experiment with hundreds of elements as you explore your way through the world in campaign mode, or join a friend and create a universe together that is entirely your own.

2017 Indie of the Year Awards — Ittle Dew 2

Ittle and Tippsie crash onto yet another island filled with loot, puzzles and mysterious inhabitants! With the help of a magical map, they set out to steal eight pieces of a raft from increasingly improbable locations including beaches, prairies, an art exhibit and some dude's basement.

Ittle Dew 2 is a charming and humorous 3D Action Adventure game with a focus on exploration and combat. Tackle the game’s dungeons in any order and discover the many secrets of its expansive overworld. With only four main weapons, combat and puzzling is streamlined, yet upgradeable inventory items add RPG-like character progression!

2017 Indie of the Year Awards — Dungeon Rats

Starting out as a new prisoner at the bottom of the gangs-ruled prison hierarchy, and of the prison itself, you must fight to survive and develop your combat skills, acquiring better weapons and equipment as you go. Recruit allies to your struggle or carry on as a lone wolf, and kill anyone foolish enough to stand in your way.

2017 Indie of the Year Awards — The Darkside Detective

Where cultists crawl, where demons dwell, where the occult… occults? *ahem* That's where you’ll find Detective Francis McQueen, the lead investigator of the criminally underfunded Darkside Division. When evil darkens the doorsteps of Twin Lakes City – hell, even when it just loiters around shop fronts or hangs out in shady alleyways – he’s there, ready to investigate the cases that nobody else will.
He is The Darkside Detective.

2017 Indie of the Year Awards — Chronicle of Innsmouth

Chronicle of Innsmouth was born by combining the stories of master-of-horror, H.P. Lovecraft, and the style of Lucas’ graphic adventures in the 90s.

Horror scenes and creepy moments create the many grotesque and paradoxical situations.

The game, just like the story, starts off with a trip through New England: at the Newburyport station, you hear for the first time about Innsmouth, a despised sea city surrounded by a myriad of odd stories about voyages to exotic, unknown lands and its own, hidden cult that’s connected mysteriously to your family’s roots.

Investigate, gather information, and solve enigmas in order to reach the spooky Innsmouth, and maybe even find an answer you don’t want to hear…

2017 Indie of the Year Awards — My picks!

IndieDB's 2017 Indie of the Year Awards has begun. We have now 10 days to nominate our favourite indie games to make it to the final Top 100, which will be announced on the 11th of December.

So, I'm going to pick my favourite games from the last 12 months and I'll make an entry for each one of them. I'll start with Steam games, so these entries will be tagged as "Commercial games".

Lastly, a couple of disclaimers: There are a few games I would have loved to have here, but sadly, they are not on IndieDB. And... I must say I haven't played every one of the entries! I'm sorry, I'm sorry, but it's a small concession I want to make. IGP is a one-man project, and I only have so much time (Well, and money) to play games. But I want to support these devs anyway, even if this is just a very small shout-out.

Rest assured they are all going to be wonderful games. I've done my research! User reviews, gameplay videos, and most of them have also been recommended by folks I trust, like the nice people at the RPG Codex (specially the Adventure Gaming subforum). *wink wink*

Super Wolfenstein HD (2014)

Super Wolfenstein 3D is a loving reimagining of the classic Wolfenstein 3D game by ID Software, but with the big difference of it having realistic physics.

If the state of the art physics of the original game wasn't enough physics for you, then this is the reimagining of Wolfenstein 3D that you've been waiting for!

All the glitches! All the Nazis! All the physics!

Bitsturbed (2016)

Bitsturbed is an old-school, action-driven, sci-fi, single-player first person shooter. Think health bar with health pickups, fast paced combat, shotguns, rocket launchers, exploding barrels and a mass of other retro mechanics in a mix of 2D and 3D FPS action!

FAITH (2017)

On September 21, 1986, two priests arrived at the Martin Family home in rural Connecticut to investigate an apparent case of demonic possession. Only two people would leave the house alive.

Haunted by nightmares and searching for answers, a young priest travels down a dark highway to return to the cursed house a year later.

Paul Nicholas‏' HALLOWE3N (2017)

My entry to the 3-Color Jam (#3CJam), where you had to create a "spooky" game that used no more than 3 colours (and yes, Black is a colour!).  It is an attempt to make a short adventure game, based heavily on the movie "Halloween" by John Carpenter.

I created it for the PICO-8 virtual console, using my SCUMM-8 point & click adventure game engine.

For best results: turn the lights down and the sound up! :D

Interview: Sudden Strike 4 (2017)

You already know that Indie Games Plague is all about free indie games. And in case of doubt you can always check the top right of the frontpage.
I published 122 entries so far. That's 122 great games you can play without spending a dime. Although nowadays it's quite easy to send some support to your favourite developers, even if they're offering their work for free.

But in the end it's just about having fun. And so I think that any commercial game that's fun, honest, and made by indie developers could also be featured in this place.

I've been thinking about featuring commercial games like Escape Goat 2 by MagicalTimeBean, his next game (when it gets realeased), Soulcaster-not-the-third, or Cloaks and Spells by @IanSeanDesign (Sadly it seems to be in a hiatus). But I never made the move. I guess finding spare time it's been also an issue. My last entry was made seven months ago. Yes, I am very embarrased by this!

Then news about the return of the Sudden Strike franchise arrived the other day. I won't waste your time praising this great WWII RTS series, I'm sure you remember it. And if you never heard of it, you can start by checking out it's MobyGames entry here.

Sudden Strike 4 (Now in glorious 3D. Sudden Strike 3 never happened) it's being developed by Kite Games and it will be published in 2017 by Kalypso Media.

This announcement is what finally made my think "Oh c'mon, let's do it already!". So I wrote some questions about the game and I sent them to Kite Games. They quickly put them on the right track, and Kalypso Media happily emailed me back with the answers!

Ok, I know I'm probably not the best interviewer out there, but you will find some new pieces of info that will definitely interest you if you're a fan of the series!

Man Enough (2010)

Prepare for four games

Nothing for the lames
This song got shitty rhymes

Use your arrow keys to walk
Use the spacebar to fire and talk
Use the arrow keys to fly
If you lose all lives
it's true that you die

As player you control Little Casper. But you’re not him. You’re just observing the world he’s living in and the struggles he has to endure.

The only person sympathizing with him seems to be his grandmother. Then again, how much can an old woman do?
